I could read your fully written story in 2 minutes. I'd honestly just be happy with a coles notes summary of the story. Go here, 10 mins of story, go there, 20 mins of story, go here, 10 mins of story, go there, 20 mins of story. The story is given to you by making you go on fetch quests everywhere. I could barely suffer through it the first time. Track following quests are devoid of any tangible fun. and some producer probably said "Ha, that's genius! How about we climb them?" And the designer probably said "yes, that's what I was thinking!" Absolutely zero creativity. Tallneck giraffe dinos to climb to get the local area layout? HAHA OK, did you get your designer off of the street? Someone probably suggested that giraffes are tall and that's a great equivalent to towers in every other open world game. They were really just pulling things from other games without really having a reason to have them.

If that's the case, then you've got to give me responsive camera controls. The combat was the best part, but I found the character often lacking in responsiveness which was unforgiving with the fact that a lot of enemies are often ending up off screen, and I'm trying to balance fighting 3 or 5 enemies at one time. Need more ammo? Just craft all your arrows in the middle of combat. There might be some stylization with the weapons you choose, but they have distinct enough purposes that the variation ends up being mostly lost because there's really only a couple good tactics. I expected a lot more replayability from a game with a premise so similar to MH, but I was dead wrong, apparently. And all the backstory exploration quests are dreadful the second time around. I liked the game overall, definitely worth a playthrough, but the combat gets stale so fast without any system for varying build and equipment, or more interesting combat encounters. The quests were still mostly the same, though. The DLC did a better job, with several unique rewards. Side quests are almost always "follow tracks for five enemies, fight enemies" with all quests granting generic rewards, except for (oddly enough) a single side quest in the very first area. The world is cool but there's little to do in it beyond hunting enemies, which you will have to do for the quests anyways. HZD has several collectibles and bland activities "just because".
Horizon zero dawn gameplay how to#
I still feel like Darksiders 2 should be the golden standard on how to do open world and collectibles.

The Open-world aspect felt mostly wasted with the ubisoftification. The leveling was very bland, with loads of useless abilities and a few that were just obscenely good. No point in investing in any armors until the best ones were unlocked and you had plenty of weaves. Also, I usually hate precentage damage reduction in games (useless in small amounts, way too powerful when you get a lot of it) and this is no exception. And once you've got it, those enemies drop nothing but vendor fodder. But weapons generally require 1 rare component from one or two different enemies. There is so much potential for a deeper crafting system. Perhaps the sequel will have a more interesting story as there is no risk of spoilers. It wasn't really connected to the backstory of the world until the very last portion. The actual story wasn't anything special. There are lot of options for taking down enemies, and especially good is that there are options that allow you to even the odds when outnumbered. Enemy health is often well balanced, apart from the DLC (way too spongy enemies) and their damage output punishes carelessness.

I didn't do a lot of side missions or such, apart from the DLC, so the pacing of backstory reveal was quite good for me. But then again, I'm one of those that will hunt down all logs in System Shock 2 just for exposition. And it is well presented, a mystery unraveling itself as you play.
Horizon zero dawn gameplay Ps4#
But I didn't have a PS4 when it released, so I just played it recently. I imagined it being somewhat similar to Monster Hunter, which is one of my most played game series. I was really excited for this game when it was announced.
