One of the best things is the ability to customise it, but I went the “omakase” route and got the kitchen to select the ingredients for me instead. Probably because it works both as a main as well as a grazing platter.

Full disclosure: I’ve been here a couple of times, and the Mala Xiang Guo ($1.50 to $3.50 per portion, minimum 10 items) is probably my favourite thing on the menu. It’s better suited as anju (drinking snacks), but personally, I prefer the traditional hotpot version. Lok lok, a popular Malaysian street food consisting of meat and vegetable skewers, is deep fried here rather than steamboat-style. Just make sure you’re armed with insect repellent, although the restaurant also provides mosquito coils on request. In the evenings, when it’s nice and breezy, it feels relaxing and far removed from the bustle of the city. The food menu is fairly extensive, covering hearty Western mains like burgers and pastas to local favourites like the trendy mala xiang guo and lok lok.Īlthough there’s also an indoor dining area, most customers are happy sitting outside on the wooden decking, especially now that live performances are back. A chill eatery where, pre-Covid, you could order satay from an open charcoal grill and share a beer tower.
